40 Applications, 10 Contracts: The Leak Nobody Was Looking At

  1. 01

    What was the problem?

Only about 25% of highly committed applicants signed a contract.

    What changed?

Trust content, community nurturing, emotional customer stories and time-bound offers took us from ~10 to 20+ contracts a month.

Illustration of a leaking funnel with people dropping out through cracks.

Our dashboards looked healthy. Leads were coming in from both paid ads and organic search. The team was busy.

Then one number stopped me. Some months, about 40 customers submitted their full application files. Only about 10 signed.

That is not a marketing problem. Submitting a file at Clevermann meant phone consultations, an office meeting and a stack of documents. These people were serious. They had already said yes many times. And three out of four still walked away at the very end.

When I looked closely, the drop-off came from three gaps.

Trust. Choosing who will guide your move to another country is a big decision, and we were a young brand. So I started showing up where trust is built: events with universities and leading education organizations. Each event became content for our audience.

Emotion and evidence. People needed to see their future, not read about it. We filmed customers at our office and shared real success stories.

Timing. Even convinced customers delay big decisions. Tailored offers with a clear time frame gave them a reason to decide now.

The idea I liked most was the simplest. When a prospect went quiet, the salesperson invited them into our community group. From there, the right content kept working, together with engagement retargeting, until they were ready.

Signed contracts rose from about 10 to at least 20 a month, often 30, and close to 40 in the best months.

The lesson: The customers you lose at the end are the most expensive ones you have. They already cost you everything except the signature.
