Five Sales Leaders, Six Markets, One Difficult Question

  1. 01

    What was the research question?

How sales strategies and representative capabilities differ across international healthcare markets.

    What did I learn?

A commercially effective approach must account for the customer, market and organizational context.

During my master’s research, I worked on a project exploring sales strategies and sales representative characteristics in a changing healthcare environment.

The research drew on interviews with five senior sales leaders across six international markets and four continents.

What made the work interesting was the need to connect perspectives from very different business environments.

A sales approach is influenced not only by the product but also by customer expectations, organizational structures, and how value is communicated.

Working with these perspectives helped me see that commercial strategy is not a script to repeat.

It requires understanding the people involved and the circumstances in which decisions are made.

The lesson: Good international business judgment starts with listening carefully before assuming that an approach successful in one environment will transfer to another.
